Parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan to elect 90 deputies to five-year terms began on Sunday under the watchful eyes of 736 international observers.

Nurzhan Shaildabekova, chairwoman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums (CEC), told a briefing on Sunday morning that 2,435 polling stations opened around the country at 8 a.m. local time (0200 GMT), and will remain open until 8 p.m. (1400 GMT). Another 59 polling stations were to open in 29 countries around the world.
