Eight people have died since November 25 due to heavy rainfall in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, the local government has revealed Saturday, as monsoon rains continue to batter several regions of the state.

"Eight people have died in rain-related incidents in Tamil Nadu," said State Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management KKSSR Ramachandran, who added that 11,239 people have been evacuated from low-lying areas and sheltered in relief centers across the state.
