Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), stressed thorough promotion of military talent cultivation to support and lead the progress in strengthening the armed forces while speaking at a CMC conference on military-talent-related work, which was held from Friday to Sunday.

Hailing the historic achievements made in military talent work, Xi said that since the 18th CPC National Congress, China has implemented the strategy of "strengthening the military through talent cultivation" with the reform of military human resources further deepened and the modernization of military personnel strengthened.

Talent is the key factor to promote the high-quality development of the armed forces, also the critical aspect to win military competition and take the initiative in future wars, Xi said, emphasizing its significance in building the People's Liberation Army into world-class military forces.

He also called for more efforts in achieving the armed forces' centenary goal — the country's national defense capabilities and economic strength should be strengthened and reach the centennial goal of building a modern military by 2027.

Underlining the necessity of adapting to the new round of scientific and technological revolution and military revolution, he demanded efforts to strengthen talent-related work in all areas to better leverage the role of them in guiding and supporting the cause of building a powerful military.

He noted the CPC shall uphold its absolute leadership over the military talent cultivation, and the military talents should be oriented to the leading military of the world, the major needs of national security, and the modernization of national defense and the armed forces.

The armed forces should fully implement the military education strategies of the new era and the strategy of using talent to strengthen the army and further deepen military school reforms, he added.
