Chinese river fishing ban helps lure endangered waterfowl
CGTN

Flowing through Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces, the Chishui River, a tributary of the upper reaches of China's Yangtze River, is an important habitat and breeding ground for rare and endemic fish. For a long time, the biodiversity of the Chishui River basin continued to decline due to overfishing, which affected the ecology there.

At the end of 2016, China banned all fishing activities in the Chishui River basin from January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2026, to restore the ecological environment.

Over the years, the ecological environment of the river has improved significantly. Today, the clear water, green banks and all kinds of wild animals create a beautiful scenery of ecological harmony. Feast your eyes on the photos of the Chinese merganser, which is listed as endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List of Threatened Species, taken on November 28 in the Guizhou part of the Chishui River.
