Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is bracing for heavy snowfall and strong winds after the temperature dropped over the weekend.

After the wintry weather started on Friday night, public transportation sectors across Xinjiang dispatched snow and ice removal task forces to urban districts, highways, railways and airports.

Winter also arrived in Aksay Kazakh Autonomous County of Jiuquan City in Gansu Province in the form of heavy snow early Sunday morning. The local transport department activated an emergency response to facilitate snow removal operations and control traffic on severely affected routes.
