Phase II of the expansion of Haikou Meilan International Airport in Haikou, capital city of south China's Hainan Province, is scheduled to open on December 2. The new addition will promote building an integrated transportation network linking land, sea and air, boost connectivity with the countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, and lay a solid foundation for tourism and airport logistics for the Hainan Free Trade Port. Passenger traffic is expected to be 35 million each year, while cargo and mail are expected to be 400,000 tonnes per year. The second phase includes a 4F-level aircraft movement area, the highest level in China's civil aviation industry, which will be capable of handling the takeoff and landing of the A380 superjumbo jet.
