In the east of Gulou Street in Beijing, there is an old hutong called Zhangwang Hutong. In 1919, a Scottish man lived here. Sir Johnston was the last emperor Pu Yi’s foreign tutor. Besides the western scientific knowledge, he taught Pu Yi how to ride a bicycle, and make calls via the telephone. Living in the Beijing hutong, Sir Johnston was keen on the Chinese culture. This teacher-student friendship was a testament to the two countries’ good relations. In this new episode of #BizHutong , CGTN’s Xu Yi will take you dive into Zhangwang Hutong to explore the past world.
