The Chinese mainland recorded 96 confirmed COVID-19 cases on Thursday, with 80 linked to local transmissions and 16 from overseas, data from the National Health Commission showed on Friday.

A total of 24 new asymptomatic cases were also recorded, and 449 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation.

Confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland now total 98,993, with the death toll unchanged since January at 4,636.

The latest tally of confirmed cases in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan region is as follows:

Hong Kong: 12,445 (12,143 recoveries, 213 deaths)

Macao: 77 (77 recoveries)

Taiwan: 16,626 (13,742 recoveries, 848 deaths)
