New Jersey confirmed the state's first case of the coronavirus Omicron variant late on Friday, Governor Phil Murphy said in a statement.
The individual, an adult female, was a fully vaccinated Georgia resident who had recently traveled to South Africa and experienced moderate symptoms.
"We have confirmed our first case of the Omicron variant in New Jersey. There is no reason for alarm, but it is vital that residents remain as vigilant as possible. Get vaccinated. Get boosted. Wear a mask," Murphy tweeted.
