UN General Assembly adopts Olympic Truce resolution ahead of Games
01:06

The United Nations General Assembly has adopted an Olympic Truce resolution ahead of the Beijing Winter Games. The resolution is aimed at highlighting the contribution of sports to promoting peace and solidarity. The Olympic Truce will be observed from seven days before the Games begin on February 4 until seven days after the Paralympics wrap up in March. The 48th UN General Assembly first considered and adopted an Olympic Truce in 1993. Since then, all the games' host countries have submitted resolutions to the General Assembly for adoption. Twenty countries, including the U.S., did not sign the agreement, while Beijing says 173 other UN members have voiced their support.
