Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday called for more efforts to make global development fairer, more effective and more inclusive.

Wang made the remarks at the third Ministerial Meeting of the Forum of China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (China-CELAC Forum), which he co-chaired.

He proposed both sides stick to openness and create inclusive opportunities of development.

"We should jointly safeguard real multilateralism and improve the fairness, effectiveness and inclusiveness of the global development so that no country or person will be left behind," he said.

To carry out the Global Development Initiative, China will set up a new special loan for China-CELAC development cooperation and build a China-Caribbean development center, Wang said.

Noting that the Taiwan question is a matter of China's national reunification and feelings, Wang expressed belief that more Latin American and Caribbean countries will support China's legitimate stance.

He called for both sides to deepen cooperation on vaccines, R&D and production of drugs, and stressed that China welcomes regional countries to continue to share the dividends of its new development pattern and jointly build the Belt and Road to facilitate a post-pandemic recovery.

Wang said that both sides should stick to innovation and create green development opportunities, as well as strengthen cooperation in the digital economy, e-commerce, electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, smart agriculture, smart cities, 5G technologies and other rising fields.

China has decided to set up a special loan for China-CELAC digital economic cooperation, said Wang, adding that his country stands ready to provide more support to developing countries in terms of emission reductions.

He added that China will also offer 5,000 government scholarships and 3,000 training quotas for countries in the region over the next two years to boost exchanges.

The CELAC foreign ministers said that China is an indispensable and important partner for regional countries, they appreciated China's assistance in their fight against COVID-19 and welcomed the major cooperation initiatives China has proposed.

They expressed belief that efforts should be made to deepen cooperation in various fields with China and that both sides will stick to multilateralism, jointly uphold the principle of sovereign equality, safeguard fairness and justice and advance sustainable development.

The meeting adopted a declaration and a 2022-2024 joint action plan for cooperation between the two sides in key fields.

In reviewing the results of cooperation, Wang said the adoption of the two documents spoke to the high-level political trust between China and CELAC, and the willingness on both sides to deepen their friendship.

He added that China is ready to work together with CELAC to jointly safeguard the common values of humanity, which include peace, development, equity, justice, democracy and freedom, and to promote the building of a China-CELAC community of shared future.
