Instead of overemphasizing its values, the U.S. should focus on the common values shared by the international community to avoid a zero-sum game in international relations, said Yukio Hatoyama, former Prime Minister of Japan, on Saturday.

Hatoyama made the remarks via video link during the opening ceremony of the International Forum on Democracy: the Shared Human Values held in Beijing.
