Despite the fierce winds and drifting snow, border guards in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have continued their patrol missions. The Telieketi border defense company is stationed in a mountain pass adjacent to the border with Kazakhstan, where there are strong winds more than 200 days a year.
In one mission, the soldiers went to patrol a highland, but the wind force reached wind speeds of 89-102 kilometers per hour that day and got stronger as they made their way up the hill. They took a brief rest, lying down on the leeward side before making the final stretch to the top. The last 100 meters to the lookout point took them over half an hour.
