Pakistan has decided not to attend the so-called "Summit for Democracy" promoted by the United States, saying Islamabad is in contact with Washington on multiple issues and it can engage on this subject "at an opportune time in the future," Pakistan's premier newspaper Daily Times reported on Thursday, citing the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.

"We remain deeply committed to further deepening democracy, fighting corruption, and protecting and promoting human rights of all citizens," the ministry said in a statement.

The "Summit for Democracy" is slated to be held virtually on December 9 to 10.
