The United States launched the war in Afghanistan following the 9/11 terror attacks, to try to make Afghanistan more "democratic." Did the U.S. really try to bring democracy to the country? Josef Gregory Mahoney, a politics professor at East China Normal University, told CGTN in a special program, "this was never really about liberating Afghanistan but rather about fulfilling the strategic objectives of American superpower unilateralism."
