Scientists from China's research institutions, including the Northwest Institute of Plateau Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, are conducting an expedition in Mt. Altun National Nature Reserve. The work began in May, according to media reports. The nature reserve is located in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and is one of the four largest untouched areas in China, surrounded by high mountains. The vast expanses are home to a wide variety of wildlife, including the Tibetan wild donkeys and snow leopards.
