Scientists from China's research institutions, including the Northwest Institute of Plateau Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, are on an expedition in Mt. Altun National Nature Reserve, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The reserve is one of China's four largest areas untouched by human activities and is surrounded by high mountains.
