Five people were killed and one injured after a fire tore through a factory building belonging to a medical device company in Nanchang, east China's Jiangxi Province, on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Nanchang Economic and Technological Development Zone.

Video clips circulating on the social media showed heavy smoke billowing into the air as emergency rescue operations were underway.

The injured person was hospitalized and in a stable condition, local authorities said on Wednesday. 

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is underway.
