U.S. House passes legislation to raise debt ceiling

A majority of the U.S. House of Representatives voted on Tuesday to increase the nation's debt limit by $2.5 trillion, to $31.4 trillion, in an effort to prevent default on Treasury Department debt in the coming weeks.
