France could soon have around 100,000 new COVID-19 cases per day, health minister Olivier Véran said on Wednesday.
The Omicron variant would be the dominant strain of COVID-19 in France by early January, he added.
French government spokesman Gabriel Attal earlier told journalists that the Omicron variant accounts for 20% of new COVID-19 infections in France and is spreading rapidly, particularly in the Paris region.
In the last 24 hours, France has registered around 73,000 new infections.
