American-born Michael Cherney first came to China over 30 years ago. But his fascination with the country started much earlier. After studying Chinese language and history at university he moved to Beijing, the city he still calls home today.

A keen photographer and artist Michael, or Qiu Mai as he's known in China, has travelled throughout the country, seeking out locations of historical significance for his work. His pictures' grainy, black-and-white aesthetic gives them a likeness to traditional Chinese landscape paintings. In keeping with tradition, he often has them printed on fans or handscrolls, or compiled into albums.

CGTN visited Michael to learn more about his unique art and his life in Beijing. Watch the episode, taken from Rediscovering China's "My Second Home".
