The Chinese mainland recorded 140 confirmed COVID-19 cases on Friday, with 87 linked to local transmissions and 53 from overseas, data from the National Health Commission showed on Saturday.

A total of 24 new asymptomatic cases were also recorded, and 492 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation.

Confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland now total 100,871, with the death toll remaining unchanged at 4,636 since January.

The latest tally of confirmed cases in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan region is as follows:

Hong Kong: 12,555 (12,189 recoveries, 213 deaths)

Macao: 77 (77 recoveries)

Taiwan: 16,873 (13,742 recoveries, 850 deaths)
