The U.S. Navy's littoral combat ship USS Milwaukee will remain in port at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, due to an outbreak of COVID-19 among its crew, according to a statement from the Navy's 4th Fleet.
"USS Milwaukee remains in port as some sailors have tested positive for COVID-19. The crew is 100% immunized and all COVID-19-positive sailors are isolated on board and away from other crew members," the statement added.
The Navy explained that a portion of those infected have exhibited mild symptoms, and that the specific variant is yet to be determined, but it did not disclose how many people have tested positive.
The ship had sailed from Jacksonville, Florida, on December 14 on a regularly-scheduled deployment to the 4th Fleet's area of operations.
