The lake may be frozen over, but the fisherman are out in force. The annual Chagan Lake Winter Fishing Festival is underway in northeast China's Jilin province. The festival carries on the old winter fishing tradition. The fishermen place many articles of tribute on the ice and pray for a good catch. Then they drill many holes through the thick ice and place the net or fish hooks under the ice. In 2017, Chagan Lake set a single net Guinness World Record for a catch that yielded 260 tonnes of fish.
