The rapid spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 has put European countries at the epicenter of a surge in infections in recent weeks. Multiple countries are reporting record-high new cases. France on Tuesday reported nearly 180,000 new cases. The UK reported close to 130,000 infections.
