The United States recorded a record high of 543,928 daily new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, as the Omicron variant continues to rapidly spread across the country and the world.
It is the highest number of new cases reported in a 24-hour period in the U.S. since the onset of the pandemic in the country, according to Johns Hopkins University's tally.
A total of 1,762 more COVID-19 related deaths were also reported on Monday, raising its toll to over 820,000.
