Twenty years ago, a Japanese man named Egami Tsuruya came to Kashgar in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on a work trip. There he met a local Uygur lady named Mehpret. They fell in love and, despite opposition from her family, got married. However, work has kept them apart for much of their married life. Her job is based in Kashgar and his in Yokohama, Japan.
