The WHO's director-general says he's optimistic the pandemic will be defeated in 2022. In a new year statement, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also set a goal of vaccinating 70 percent of the world's population by July. He warned against "narrow nationalism and vaccine hoarding." Tedros has previously criticized rich nations for "gobbling up" the global vaccine supply while people from less developed countries wait for their first doses.
