At least 16 of the 25 staff at Belgium's Princess Elisabeth Antarctica Research Station have tested positive for the novel coronavirus since December 14, 2021, according to BBC News.

"The situation isn't dramatic," Joseph Cheek, a project manager for the International Polar Foundation, told the BBC. Officials said the cases remain mild thus far.

The scientific polar research station went into service on February 15, 2009.
