The legislative council plays an important role in the governance of Hong Kong and expressed hope that lawmakers can fulfill their duties according to law, defend the "One Country Two Systems" principle, serve the people of Hong Kong and boost communications with the mainland, the message said. It also noted that implementing the principle of patriots governing Hong Kong will unite all parties and create a better future for the region.
