The Philippines has been hit by a sharp increase in new COVID-19 cases in the past few days. Officials on Monday said the average daily virus cases in the country increased almost seven times compared to the previous week. Metro Manila is under a stricter alert level from January 3 to 15 due to the threat posed by the Omicron variant.
