More than 16,000 homes have been left without power after a severe thunderstorm hit the Australian capital of Canberra, where large hailstones and strong winds damaged homes and cars at approximately 5:00 p.m. local time on Monday.

Emergency services received more than 400 calls for help, more than half of which remained unresolved on Tuesday morning.
