Young adults bond over classical music in Rio's Maré favela

As New Year concerts took place around the world, in one of Rio's most violent shantytowns, a symphony orchestra presented thousands of children and young adults the hope and chance to change their lives through music. The Maré Orchestra of Tomorrow was established in 2010. China's State Grid Brazil Holding funded the orchestra during difficult times, hiring music teachers and purchasing instruments. Today, it's bringing music from the people back to the people on an open-roof bus during the pandemic when people need their spirits lifted.
