Once a vaccine has been fully developed, the next step in its deployment is mass production. To this end Wang Hui, who was then Deputy General Manager of Beijing Institute of Biological Products, was charged with readying her company to immediately start making COVID-19 vaccines on a huge scale. In addition to coordinating a massive upgrade and expansion of existing production capacity, to ensure a smooth transition she also had to liaise with CDC scientists involved with the last stages of development. By pushing herself to her limits, she ensured China’s national effort was able to achieve remarkable results at an early date.
