Japan has requested that the U.S. strengthen its COVID-19 countermeasures at military installations around the country, including restrictions on people exiting the bases, the Kyodo news agency reported on Thursday.

Kyodo stated that the request was made during a phone call between Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
