A series of lightning and thunderbolts struck around Sydney early on January 8 as a severe thunderstorm moved over large parts of New South Wales. Forks of lightning illuminated the dark night sky. Australia's Bureau of Meteorology warned locals to expect damaging wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rainfall through Saturday (January 8).
