A total of 164 people, including two children, were killed in violent unrest in Kazakhstan over the last week, Russia's Sputnik news agency cited the health ministry as saying on Sunday.

"During the unrest, 164 people died in Kazakhstan, (including) 103 in Almaty," Sputnik quoted it as saying.

The counter-terrorist operation in Kazakhstan continued on Sunday. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has repeatedly vowed to completely eliminate terrorists and fully restore public order and security.

Meanwhile, a peacekeeping mission organized by the Collective Security Treaty Organization, which has been called to help Kazakhstan at its appeal, will remain in the country until the situation normalizes, chief of the peacekeepers Andrei Serdyukov told reporters on Sunday.

The peacekeeping mission has completed relocation to Kazakhstan and forces are protecting important military and public social facilities in Almaty and nearby areas, he added.
