Lebanon's state electricity company – Électricité du Liban – blamed protesters for a nationwide power disruption on Saturday, saying that they had stormed a key substation and tampered with vital equipment.

The small Mediterranean country is already grappling with round-the-clock power cuts that can last up to 20 hours a day due to a financial crisis that has hampered key imports, including fuel for power stations.
