WeChat reports strong growth in mini programs, video live streams
More than 700 million people have accessed COVID-19-related services through WeChat since the pandemic began. In 2021, daily active users for the app's mini programs hit 450 million, with transactions in tourism, retail and catering doubling from a year earlier.
Over 11 years, WeChat has grown into an ecosystem that most of China can't live without. However, its popularity has also brought widespread scrutiny and WeChat's parent company Tencent is among several big Chinese tech firms to have been fined for violating anti-monopoly regulations.
