Authorities in north China's Tianjin Municipality hold a press conference to brief on the latest situation of COVID-19 outbreak and containment measures. The infections were reported last Saturday in Jinnan District of the port city. Gene sequencing shows that the first two locally transmitted confirmed cases were of VOC/Omicron variant, according to the municipal headquarters for COVID-19 prevention and control. A citywide nucleic acid testing has started and residents are asked not to leave the city unless necessary.
