Authorities in Kazakhstan's Almaty said on Wednesday that 1,678 people have been detained for participating in terrorist attacks, looting, and other crimes over the past day, according to Interfax news agency.
Security forces also seized 36 units of firearms and 1,476 bullets as counter-terrorism operation continues across the city.
According to the authorities, some districts have been "cleared" of bandit groups and the situation remains stable.
