Tokyo's metropolitan government raised its COVID-19 alert to the second-highest level on Thursday for the first time since September amid the worsening outbreak, Kyodo news agency has reported.
The Japanese government is mulling the idea of shortening the current 14-day self-isolation period for those who have had close contact with a person infected with the Omicron variant, officials said Thursday.
