As of January 22, people coming to Beijing will be required to take a nucleic acid test within 72 hours of arrival as the Chinese capital beefs up virus prevention measures in the wake of the Omicron variant.

The new measure will run until the end of March, local authorities said on Sunday.

Beijing previously only asked people to provide a negative PCR test result from within 48 hours as well as a green health code to gain entry to the city.

The Winter Olympic Games is set to kick off on February 4 in Beijing.
