The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) issued a tsunami warning for the country's Pacific coast at midnight on Saturday, urging residents to evacuate from seaside areas, following a massive underwater volcanic eruption near the South Pacific island country of Tonga.
At this hour, Amami Island has experienced a tsunami of about 1.2 meters, while many eastern Pacific coastal areas have been hit by tsunami of 0.4 to 0.6 meters, according to the JMA.
