Wild Asian elephant herd in Yunnan welcomes sixth newborn calf

A wild Asian elephant herd has welcomed its sixth newborn calf. The calf was caught on camera enjoying leisure time with family members at Wild Elephant Valley in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, southwest China's Yunnan Province recently.

Winter marks the dry season in Xishuangbanna, during which a large number of wild Asian elephants gather in Wild Elephant Valley. Winter is therefore the peak time for births.

Asian elephants are under first-class state protection in China, with more than 300 remaining nationwide, mainly in Xishuangbanna, Pu'er and Lincang in Yunnan Province.
