Philippines reports first Omicron variant deaths

The Philippines on Wednesday confirmed the first deaths from locally-transmitted cases caused by the highly infectious Omicron variant.
The health ministry claimed that those who died were elderly patients with existing health issues who had not been vaccinated against COVID-19.
