Brazil has recorded 204,854 new confirmed cases of coronavirus within 24 hours, the Health Ministry revealed on Wednesday, breaking the country's previous record for the second day in a row. The South American country has confirmed 23,416,748 cases since the pandemic began, while the official death toll has risen to 621,855.

The number of new daily cases in Germany reached 112,323, a new high, according to the federal disease control authorities. As of January 19, the total number of confirmed cases in Germany had reached 8,186,850, equal to nearly 10 percent of the country's population of 83.2 million.
