China delivered drinking water and food supplies to Tonga on Wednesday, January 19. A ceremony was held after China's relief supplies arrived in Tonga. Tonga's Deputy Prime Minister Poasi Tei thanked China for offering help, saying the relief supplies donated by the Chinese government are the first batch of emergency relief materials received by the Tongan government after the disaster.
Meanwhile, the Red Cross Society of China has also donated a total of $100,000 of emergency cash aid to the country, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian confirmed at a regular press conference on Thursday, January 20, adding China will continue to provide Tonga with cash and other disaster-relief materials.
