Anyang city in central China's Henan Province remains the hardest-hit city in China. 433 omicron variant cases have been confirmed in the city since the first case was reported on the eighth of January. The city is building a quarantine facility to prevent the further spread of the virus. Huang Yichang reports.
The test, trace and isolate protocol has always been a crucial part of China's COVID-19 control and prevention. In the Wenfeng district of Anyang, a quarantine facility is under construction. Upon completion, over three thousand rooms will be ready to house close contacts of confirmed cases in the city. Construction began on January 16th. And contractors have a deadline of five days.
YANG QINGBIN Director, Anyang Urban Administration Bureau "To finish the task as soon as possible, over 2000 construction workers are working non-stop day and night."
HUANG YICHANG Beijing "Have a look of these offices; To meet the deadline for building this quarantine facility, construction workers brought their beddings and moved into these offices, which serve as their sleeping quarters. Some of them can only sleep for two or three hours to race against the time."
"How many days have you been working here?"
"Three days."
"How many hours have you slept in these three days?"
"Around ten hours in total. It is indeed tough, but I feel some sense of achievement."
YANG QINGBIN Director, Anyang Urban Administration Bureau "All of them are trying their best to finish the construction as soon as possible. We hope the isolation rooms can be used quickly to end the outbreak."
The Urban Administration Bureau says the rooms in this quarantine facility will have electricity, air-conditioning, and a wireless network. Each room has its own bathroom. Daily necessities will be provided to make it livable for people upon moving in.
