Several people were injured in a shooting in Heidelberg, Germany, on Monday, and the lone gunman is dead, police announced on Twitter.

"This is what is known so far: A lone perpetrator injured several people in a lecture hall with a long gun. The perpetrator himself is dead," police said in a tweet.

Police are still on site and further details will be provided later.
